Lucie Loves… Christmas // What do you buy the man who has everything?
It was the night before Christmas and you still had no clue what to get him!
Time is running out. There aren’t many shopping days left until Christmas, and with the high street getting busier and busier, why not think about shopping online in one place?
It’s the same story every year isn’t it? You need gift ideas… But… what do you buy the man who has everything. The guy who holds his own by buying himself half of the list you asked him to put together back in October?
Well… fret not! I think I might have this one covered, thanks to Harvey Nichols.
Whether it be your father, brother, boyfriend, husband or the man you are currently seeing – and trust me, if it is the latter, then you don’t want to resort to socks, aftershave or anything else as impersonal – I’d not be happy. I would be able to tell that zero thought or effort had been put into my gift.
My ex and I spent four Christmases together and I watched year after year his family shower each other with gifts, he and I would spend a fair amount of money on an array of smaller gifts, as well as a few medium sized ones and one large gift, also known as the main present. With a few years alone under my belt I realise now that it was all a cover up of my feelings and I paved over the cracks of what was a loveless relationship with pretty wrapping, ribbons and bows.
Some friends and I recently had a great conversation about what giving and receiving gifts for Christmas actually means. Our bottom line was, why spend a lot of money on loads of items in varying sizes, which won’t hold their value once the big day is over? Do you have to spend a certain amount of money to know someone loves you?
Can’t I just buy him socks again?
This year I have a male friend to buy for, as he holds importance to me, I want to make sure that I make a good impression, showing I have put in the right amount of thought and effort, I am not a lazy gift giver but I don’t think I can face department stores and busy high streets in December! I was racking my brains about what I could buy him; trying to replay conversations we had whilst out shopping as perhaps there might have been some clues. No such luck, (I really need to write things down before I forget them!) So I was over the moon to hear from Harvey Nichols who assured me that they have it covered this year with their perfectly put together hampers.
